Innochain has worked closely with Turtle Wax for almost two years and has supported a major redesign of its supply chain structure and modus operandi.
Camiel Vennekens was asked to carry out a full and thorough assessment of its European supply chain in late 2008, his brief was to produce a plan outlining current status of the three businesses operating throughout Europe and through close collaboration with the EMEA teams produce a detailed transformation plan that would enable a much more consolidated view of its entire supply chain organisation.
This included redesigning the supply chain and the introduction of a commodity management team responsible for pan European purchasing and developing mutually beneficial relationships with preferred suppliers.
A complete review of Turtle wax’s warehousing and distribution across Europe and support in the renegotiation of third party logistics and distribution, resulting in significant savings and improvements in customer service. This also included the project management of a brand new ERP system, the support from Camiel, Filip and Kerryanne was instrumental to the success of this whole project which was completed on time and within budget.

In times of high economical activity, 3PL´s tend to focus on business development and the set up of new operations. Typically short implementation lead times are requested for these new operations and thus very often base solutions are implemented. As an end result, the customer is served but the operation is not always able to work in an optimal or productive way.
Once the operation is up and running it becomes visible that costs are too high. Less visible is where exactly the money is lost. Most of the logistic partners on the market today do know IF they are profitable or not. But most of them do not know exactly WHERE within their operations profit or loss is made.

We use innoChain´s productivity tool daily. On the one hand we measure our internal productivity, but on the other we also use the tool for short term manpower planning and longer term constraint calculations. (For example Material Handling Equipment requirements). Additional built in features include basic invoicing, forecast accuracy, and online (daily) profit and loss figures.
It´s a great tool to work with, giving us a perfect view where we are and exactly when and where we need to adjust our operations. A real management tool that helps us to run our day-to-day and long term business.

Last Year in August , InnoChain was invited by the Flemish institute of Logistics (www.vil.be) to write a practical guideline that would help a logistics service provider to set up a reverse logistics service offering within their organisation.
A handbook was developed by the InnoChain team and periodically reviewed by a team of industry leaders. The final version of the handbook was approved by the VIL steering committee during a round table session.
Last month a joint presentation was organized in Antwerp by speakers of the VIL, InnoChain and Parts Express for an audience of industry experts. You will find the presentation at the link below. We welcome your questions and/or remarks on the topis, at anytime. Your inputs and experiences in the world of reverse logistics and after-sales business are highly appreciated.
The handbook is currently at the editors and will be officially released at the next VIL “ Reverse Logistics seminar” which is scheduled for the September timeframe.
